ITANAGAR, May 30: Chief Municipal Executive Officer (CMEO) Itanagar Municipal Council (IMC) Bokar Basar in a letter to the Chief Estate Officer (CEO) urged him to take necessary steps and conduct eviction drive against haphazard and unauthorized construction of culverts, drains and other structures on roadside in public places under various municipal wards in capital region.
“Councillors apprised me to initiate with you for verification of the sites under various wards and take necessary step and conduct eviction drive,” said Basar in his letter adding the councillors assured to cooperate with administration in public interest.
The letter said unauthorized and haphazard constructions of shops, gumtis besides construction of culverts in many markets and sector areas under various IMC wards for last couple of months has created great inconvenience to public.

State await a full ministry as Congress dilemma continues

ITANAGAR, May 30: The infighting within the Congress is out in open as Nabam Tuki is yet to form his council of ministers even though two weeks have passed since he took oath as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh for the second time on May 18. According to a source, the Congress High Command in Delhi is yet to approve the names of the probable ministers which have been forwarded from Itanagar.
Kalikho Pul, Chowna Mein, Pema Khandu, Jarkar Gamlin, Wangki Lowang, Lombo Tayeng, Honchun Ngandam, Kumar Waii, Takam Pario, Gojen Gadi, Komlong Mossang, Tanga Byaling, Tapang Taloh features in the list of probable ministers. The ministry however has to consist of 12 names including the Chief Minister himself.
The dilemma for the All India Congress Committee (AICC) is that two opposing groups within the Congress party in Arunachal have proposed the names of their own candidates.
The source adds that if the AICC clears the list tonight, a full ministry is scheduled to be formed on Saturday evening. However, if the AICC is unable to take a decision this evening, the wait is likely to be a bit longer.
Some civil society organisations have demanded that PDS scam tainted names be kept out of the Tuki ministry. It remains to be seen whether they actually will be kept out. Atleast 3 names fall in the tainted list.

AAPSU team visits RGGP campus, demands eviction drive against land encroachment
ITANAGAR, May 30: A team of All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) today visited Rajiv Gandhi Govt Polytechnic (RGGP) campus here and interacted with the staffs and students regarding the ‘ongoing massive land encroachment.’ The college campus is being threatened under heavy land encroachment and some portion of its boundary wall has been destroyed and the public are trespassing through the campus causing disturbances to the academic environment of the college, the AAPSU observed.
“It has also been noticed that the canteens in and around the campus are providing alcohol and tobacco which is totally unacceptable since its causing health hazardous to the students as well as creating nuisance around academic campus,” AAPSU said in a release.
AAPSU condemned the land encroachers and asked them to leave the college campus for the interest of our students’ and society as whole. “Persons those involved in the encroachment against polytechnic college are heartless and authority should give them a serious punishment. As we know that Arunachal Pradesh does not have enough educational infrastructures, so to protect and preserve some of its institutions shall be the top priority of AAPSU.” Thus it appeals the rest of the state to cooperate in its movement.
“The concerned authority must evict the occupants within a week or else it would face democratic action, because such unjustified practice done by anyone in the society is not tolerable”, demands AAPSU.
Meanwhile, Students Union of Rajiv Gandhi Govt Polytechnic (SURGGP) today demanded the authority to find out permanent solution to encroachment problem, sanction a financial package for proper construction of boundary wall of the Polytechnic and for an alternate road to the institute. The Union said that authorities should take steps for solution to the problems within a month, else it threatens to agitate.
The main reason for the encroachment is “inadequate construction of campus boundary wall,’ the Union said and appealed to the state Govt. to release a special package for the construction of the campus boundary wall at the earliest. Meanwhile SURGGP lauded All Papumpare District Students’ Union, AAPSU and land management department for visiting the polytechnic and hoped for permanent solution to the encroachment problems.
NHPC distributes computers to capital based schools

DC office bids farewell to EAC Naharlagun
ITANAGAR, May 30: A small farewell function was organized today in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar Capital Complex Mige Kamki in honour of Taw Tara EAC Naharlagun who retires tomorrow upon attaining superannuation. Terming Tara as a very liberal and honest officer who has always worked for the welfare of people, the DC further said that it is a privilege to get a chance to work till retirement. The DC further asked him to continue his good work in the society and provide guidance to the younger generation. Tara recalling his working years as the golden period said that one should never lose hope as hope keeps everything alive. Growing drug abuse, poor road condition dominate coordination meeting in West Siang
AALO, May 30: Various key issues including road condition, drainage system, growing drug abuse among the youth and law and order problem in West Siang district were discussed thread barely in a coordination meeting convened by district administration with HoDs, public leaders, youth organizations, Bazar and Sector Secretaries at DC's Conference hall here on May 28.
Special emphasis was laid on growing drug abuse among the youth and consequent law and order problem within Aalo town.
Initiating the discussion, Deputy Commissioner M K Sahoo said that issues are manifolds but administration and police cannot bring an end to all problems unless societal effort and cooperation is lent to contain these growing problems. Youth force is the future of the district and their career cannot be spoilt due to growing problem of drugs abuse in the distinct. Parental care and awareness campaign in the form of games and sports, discourse and lectures should be organized in schools and colleges on the ill affect of drugs in collaboration with army, ITBP from time to time. Specific locations of drugs peddlers and their activities should be intimated to administration and police so that prompt action can be taken to nab all culprits.

Protect citizens living along NH 52 A
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, we on behalf of Papum Pare District BJP unit would like to bring to the notice of the state Govt. that National Highway 52A is becoming an accident prone area. Today a Scorpio vehicle fell down from NH 52A and two families miraculously escaped from the accident as vehicle fell just few mtrs away from their house on NH 52 A between Itanagar and Naharlagun. The driver of the vehicle also escaped from the trap of death. It is a God’s mercy on them.
If proper protection measures were provided in the said portion, the accident could have been averted. But condition of the roads of our state capital is not that of 21st Century. Anyone can say that present road condition is like those of 18th century and may be even older. If the said scorpio had fallen over the roofs of the two houses than result could have been worse. The persons residing near NH are also family members of the govt, who had given them the power to lead through their voting rights. As such, they all have equal rights as compare to other people.
The ruling Congress Govt. in the state should treat its citizens as their own family members and take adequate measures to provide safety and security to them. The NH should be well developed and protection measures be adopted by constructing protection wall at strategic location so that such accident do not repeat in near future.

Capital witnessing growing unfair trade practices
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, I would like to draw the attention of
controller of Legal Metrology and also the entire population of the capital complex
towards the growing unfair trade practices. While it is an offence selling articles/items
above MRP, most of the shopkeepers of capital are charging extra very casually. Many
of us rarely take up cudgels against anyone who is overcharging or even refuse to
pay up whether it’s a rupee or two or instead file a complaint against the shopkeeper.
This is why they get away with overcharging more often than not. The MRP (Maximum
Retail Price) is inclusive of all taxes and a retailer can sell at a price below
the MRP. Overcharging is an offence for which the trader can be prosecuted. Many
of the shopkeepers here charge extra for cold drinks in the name of freezing. For
god’s sake..!! Cold drinks have to be cold and they are not doing us any favor by
keeping it cold. And not only these it has also come into my attention that breads,
buns and liquid milk packets are sold without any manufacturing date mentioned in
it. Bread and Buns manufactured in certain date expires within 4-
An official team must conduct surprise checks in the shops, market and a few other parts in the town and track shopkeepers violating the rules and exploiting the consumers. Legal action should be initiated against these shopkeepers.

Dirty streets of capital
Dear Editor,
I shall be much obliged if you allow me a little space in your esteemed paper to draw the attention of the authorities to the insanitary condition of our city streets. No steps have yet been taken by the authorities to improve the sanitation of the unhealthy streets in the city. Nearly all the drains are blocked with rubbish and filthy water is not allowed to flow causing foul smells.
They have become breeding centres of mosquitoes and other contagious disease germs. I would like to suggest that streets should be provided with more drains and the existing ones be properly covered and cleaned. Some more dustbins are to be provided and placed in different parts so that the people may be stopped from throwing the waste on the streets. Hopping my suggestions will be taken up and acted on.

Cyber crime in Arunachal-
Dear Editor,
This is the age of technology we live in, a generation obsessed with gadgets and information media. There’s no doubt that if a survey is carried out in the state 8 out of 10 students would be active social networking site users. No doubt it keeps us ahead in terms of information and technology, but lately the careless use of social networking sites has given birth to new advance form of criminal activity in our state – the cyber crime. The issue that had started with online account hacking and ATM card burglary has gone up to create personal and social defamation and social unrest as a whole.
How often I come across status and pictures uploaded in social networking sites which are personal and viciously misused by the administrator for defaming the unknown individual or for the sake of publicity of his/her group. Personal and inappropriate photos which are downloaded from unsecured profiles and unprotected accounts of unknown individuals are circulated in the web or by MMS by adding vulgar captions. And how do our youth react to that??? Well they are amazed and flood these sites and blogs with their stupidious dirty comments, not realizing that the victim might be his/her sister or a friend. Where the victim does go for justice or to stop the blasphemy of such a crime? Correct me if I am wrong but to my knowledge we don’t have a cyber crime branch here in our state, and the normal policemen as so I believe could be of least help.
The only measure possible to escape this tragedy is by securing the use of social networking sites and by following the basic rules of these sites which is – “NOT TO ADD UNKNOWN INDIVIDUALS”. Maybe the younger generation still doesn’t understand the risks of internet use, because posting an inappropriate photo in your unsecured social networking site is like posting the same photo in the Naharlagun daily market or the Akash Deep wall. Anyone can see it from anywhere in the world, download and copy it to manipulate it for his/her own personal means. No surprises that the female sex is the prime victim, which adds to the fact that young girls and women need to be extra careful in maintaining the security of their social networking accounts as they are the obvious targets.
It’s a shame because at times of social unrest in our state, I was disheartened to
see blogs and groups of “X vs. Y tribe” and more saddening was the participation
of the youths in spreading communal unrest by actively participating in such anti

Heavy rainfall in the last few days have caused massive deterioration of the condition of capital roads. Be it sector, colony, village or for that national highway, the roads are in worst form. The pathetic road condition not only damages vehicle, but it pose serious threat to the motorists. Already reports of accident are pouring in from various parts of capital. Urban development and public works department, the two agencies responsible for maintaining capital road has not been able to fulfill their roles. They need to be more proactive.
The citizens of capital too are not helping the cause. Earth cutting along national highway and colony roads is severely damaging the existing road. The capital administration along with UD and PWD has failed to take any strong action against those citizens who carries out illegal earth cutting near the road. Their silence has encouraged those wrongdoers. If urgent step is not taken, situation may go out of control. It’s time capital administration wake up and take action against citizens indulging in illegal activities nearby road.
